FROM THE CONDUCTOR (Sept. 2016)
Welcome back to our 45th season of great music and camaraderie. Again, we all get to combine our talents to make wonderful music and entertain thousands of people.
We continue to have record audiences that really enjoy our concerts and keep coming back for more. This season promises to continue that trend and hopefully promises to have more favorable weather conditions than last season. The new schedule has two exciting additional performances in addition to our regular eight concerts. We will present our Christmas concert twice. First on Thurs. Dec. 1 at 5th Ave. South and then at the park on Sunday Dec. 4. Our final concert of the season, Sat. April 22 and Sun. April 23, will be a Community Band Spectacular! The Naples and Bonita Springs concert bands will combine to feature over 150 musicians. Each band will present a varied program for their portion of the concert and combine forces for a grand finale. The updated 2016 – 2017 schedule is in your folder.
Go to our official web site, www.naplesconcertband.org, to see the repertoire and featured guest soloists for all of this seasons concerts.
Sadly our fantastic long time announcer, Bill Belaney, passed away on August 15, 2016. He will be greatly missed. We are in the process of searching for a new “voice of the band”.
President Howard and your board of directors have again been very busy this summer doing the planning and leg work necessary to make this season run smoothly. Contracts, publicity, grants, fund raising, scheduling and purchase of new music and equipment are just a few of the details that they have been attending to.
We are very fortunate to have a wonderful organization and many dedicated volunteers to make our rehearsals and concerts comfortable and rewarding. Thank you all for your many hours of work! Our section leaders also deserve a big thank you for all of their extra time and efforts!
Auditions for a host of promising “new members’ have been scheduled prior to our first two rehearsals this season. Our most immediate need is still a Bassoonist and another Tuba player.
I receive many positive and helpful comments from the feedback sheets that you turn in at the end of each season. They are very encouraging to me and I try to incorporate many of your ideas into my planning. Starting with the Oct. 18 rehearsal, we will move our rehearsal time to the 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. time slot. After the Nov. 13 Patriotic concert we will decide if we want to make that change permanent.
I am ready for a fantastic 45th season! I hope you are too!
