FROM THE CONDUCTOR (Sept. 2017)
Welcome back to our 46th season of great music and camaraderie. This season marks my 10th year as conductor/music director of NCB and I sincerely appreciate all your efforts, talent and support. I feel very fortunate to be able to make wonderful music and entertain thousands of people with all of you!
We continue to have record audiences that really enjoy our concerts and keep coming back for more. This season promises to continue that trend. We will have a challenging set of programs and a fantastic line up of guest soloists to present to our fans. The new schedule includes our regular eight concerts, concluding with our combined Community Band Spectacular with the Bonita Springs Concert Band. The updated 2017 – 2018 schedule is in your folder.
By the time you read this letter you will have already received an email with a link taking you to “the cloud”. All of this years recorded samples can be played on line or downloaded by using this link. CD’s of the same samples will also be available for those that request them. In addition, please go to our official web site, www.naplesconcertband.org to see the repertoire, highlights and featured guest soloists for all of this seasons concerts.
Sadly we will miss our long time Treasurer and Bucketeer Coordinator, Marilyn Hughes. Her hard work and dedication was second to none. This year our new Treasurer will be Fred Burns and our Bucketeer Coordinator will be Sheila Miles.
President Howard and your board of directors have again been very busy this summer doing the planning and leg work necessary to make this season run smoothly. Contracts, publicity, grants, fund raising, scheduling, and purchase of new music and equipment are just a few of the details that they have been attending to.
We continue to have a wonderful organization and many dedicated volunteers to make our rehearsals and concerts comfortable and rewarding. Thank you all for your many hours of work! Our section leaders also deserve a big thank you for all of their extra time and efforts!
Last season we added 16 very qualified new members to the band. Auditions for a host of promising “future members” have been scheduled prior to our first two rehearsals this season. We could use additional personnel in our Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon, Alto Sax., Fr. Horn, Tuba and Percussion sections.
I receive many positive and helpful comments from the feedback sheets that you turn in at the end of each season. They are very encouraging to me and I try to incorporate many of your ideas into my planning. Remember that our rehearsal time is 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. now.
All of you are seasoned veterans of many bands. You all know how to prepare for and conduct yourself during our rehearsals and concerts. Let’s combine all of that experience to make this season the most productive and successful one thus far.
I am ready for a fantastic 46th season! I hope you are too!
